Sharpe Named AIC Director of Cross Country and Track & Field

MANSFIELD, Mass. - American International College Director of Athletics Jessica Chapin announced on Monday, January 3 that the interim tag has been removed from Logan Sharpe's title, and he will serve as the Director of Cross Country and Track & Field on a full basis going forward.

"I am thrilled to announce that Logan will be officially named our Director of Cross Country and Track and Field. Coach Sharpe has carried forth the winning tradition of this program with two NE10 and NCAA Regional Championships in Cross Country this past fall. We are excited for the future of AIC Cross Country and Track and Field under his leadership."

"I am honored to be promoted as the first Director of Cross Country and Track and Field at American International College," said Sharpe. "I want to thank Lou Izzi, Jessica Chapin and Angelo Bruno for recognizing my passion for the sport and love to impact these young student-athletes lives after such a history making cross country season. I look forward to the continued support from my administration, coaches, and most importantly student-athletes to make AIC cross country and track and field a conference, regional and national powerhouse.

After joining the program in 2018 as an assistant coach, Sharpe's impact was immediate. Sharpe was twice named USTFCCCA East Region Assistant Coach of the Year, winning for his work during the outdoor season in 2019 and the 2019-20 indoor season for his work.

In the spring of 2021, the athletes he most closely worked with were responsible for 97 of the 114 points AIC scored in upsetting Stonehill College to win the first Northeast-10 Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field title in program history, including Co-Most Outstanding Track Performer winner Wahjerjay Blango, and overall meet scoring leader Roxan Foster.

With the departure of Leo Mayo, the program's founder, following the spring season, Sharpe was named Interim Director. Led by NE10 and East Region Cross Country Athletes of the Year Ezra Mutai and Fransiscah Cherotich, the Yellow Jackets swept the NE10 and East Region Championships; the wins for the women were the first in program history and earned the squad its first-ever NCAA National Championship berth. As a result of the tremendous success of his teams, Sharpe won NE10 and East Region Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year awards.
