USTFCCCA ALL-REGION AWARDS | USTFCCCA ALL-REGION HONORS

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Following a dominant performance at the NCAA Division II East Regional last weekend, American International took home all four major All-Region Awards as announced by the USTFCCCA earlier this week.

The Yellow Jackets' Ezra Mutai was named Men's Athlete of the Year, while freshman Fransiscah Cherotich was selected as Women's Athlete of the Year. AIC Interim Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Logan Sharpe was named Men's and Women's Coach of the Year.

For Mutai, the award comes on the heels of winning the East Region Championship as an individual, and this is his second time winning the award after taking it in his rookie campaign in 2019. He continues a stretch of eight straight invidividual regional titles by Yellow Jackets dating back to 2013, and 10 of the last 12 overall.

Cherutich likewise won the East Regional, and took the award for the first time in her career. She is the first to win the award for AIC since Jeptui Cherutich won three straight from 2010-12.

Sharpe, who was already named Men's and Women's Coach of the Year in the NE10, earned his first two Regional plaudits as head coach. He is the first AIC Coach to win Regional Coach of the Year on the women's side; former Head Coach Leo Mayo won the award on the men's side in 2014 and 2016.

In addition to major awards, the NE10 finished second among all conferences nationally with 38 student-athletes earning All-Region honors. The AIC and Southern Connecticut men both finished with six All-Region honorees while on the women's side, AIC and Stonehill each had five runners earn All-Region.

The NCAA National Championships will take place on Saturday, November 20 in St. Leo, Florida at the Abbey Course. AIC, Southern Connecticut and Stonehill have qualified along with individuals from Assumption, Franklin Pierce and Southern New Hampshire.
