AIC Claims All Six Major Awards
MANSFIELD, Mass. – American International swept all six men's and women's cross country major awards, as Ezra Mutai and Fransiscah Cherotich were named Northeast-10 Men's and Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, highlighting the NE10's All-Conference awards which were released on Friday.
For a complete list of all-conference selections, please see below. All-Conference teams are based on student-athlete performances at the NE10 Championships, which took place last month. The six major awards were voted on by the league's head coaches.
Mutai became the 10th straight Yellow Jacket to win Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, while teammate Callum Elson took home Rookie of the Year honors. Cherotich won both Athlete and Rookie of the Year, while Logan Sharpe was named Men's & Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year. AIC also had a league-best seven men earn All-Conference honors. On the women's side, the Yellow Jackets, Stonehill & SNHU each had five All-Conference runners.
Mutai won the NE10 Championship in 24:28 for his second straight NE10 Title. He helped AIC sweep the awards on the men's side for the first time since the 2015 season. Elson, meanwhile, placed second at the NE10 Championship in 25:28 to give the Yellow Jackets their first Rookie of the Year honor since 2015.
Cherotich won her first NE10 Title in 21:21, setting a new NE10 record since the conference moved to the 6K distance back in 2015. She is the first NE10 woman to win Athlete of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the same season.
Sharpe led both his squads to NE10 Championships in his first year at the helm of the cross country program. He had 12 student-athletes earn conference honors overall becomes the first coach since 2017 to sweep both awards.
