Yellow Jackets, Skyhawks and Owls to Represent the NE10
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Following an impressive performance at the NCAA East Regional hosted by Roberts Wesleyan over the weekend, Northeast-10 programs claimed five of the six automatic bids to the 2021 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships and had three student-athletes also qualify, as announced by the NCAA on Monday evening.
On the men's side, East Region Champion American International qualified alongside Southern Connecticut State and Stonehill. The teams went 1-2-3 over the weekend in the event. AIC and Stonehill both qualified back in 2019 while the Owls last reached the NCAA Championships in 2018.
Individually, Claudio Rocha of Assumption was one of two individuals in the region to qualify and the only from the NE10. For the women, Franklin Pierce's Bethaney Donnelly and SNHU's Ashley Corcoran were the two qualifiers from the East Region.
AIC claimed their first women's East Region Championship to qualify as a team, while Stonehill took second to reach the NCAA National Championships for the 21st straight year.
The championships will be held Nov. 20 in Saint Leo, Florida at The Abbey Course. Saint Leo University and Tampa Bay Sports Commission will serve as hosts. The women's race will begin at 8:30 a.m. Eastern, followed by the men's race at 9:45 a.m. Eastern.
A live stream of the championships will occur on www.NCAA.com from 8:30 a.m. Eastern until the conclusion of the awards ceremony.
