Northeast-10 Man of the Year finalist
ESSEX, Vt. – The College of Saint
Rose senior men’s basketball standout Dominykas
Milka has been named the 2013-14 Northeast-10
Conference Male Outstanding Scholar-Athlete of the Year, it was
announced Monday night at the organization’s yearend banquet
at the Essex Resort & Spa in the Greater Burlington Area.
Milka, who is from Ridgewood, N.Y. and is a Lithuania native,
graduated from Saint Rose with a 3.65 GPA as an Accounting major.
On the court, the Golden Knights center averaged 19.1 points and
12.0 rebounds combined the past two years, collecting Northeast-10
First Team accolades both seasons.
“My time at Saint Rose has changed my life
significantly,” said Milka. “I was a boy in a small
town in Lithuania that loved basketball, and through being a
hard-working athlete, I got to live an immigrant’s dream in
America on a daily basis.”
In the classroom, Milka is a two-time Capital One Academic
All-America honoree, and has also admirably spent a great deal of
his time working in the community. He has spent time volunteering
at Charity Wheelchair Basketball games, the Albany Country Regional
Food Bank, annual PAL Basketball clinics and making patient visits
to local hospitals.
“Over four years at Saint Rose, I became aware that if you
really want to be a good leader, you have to always give back to
the community,” added Milka. “My community service
experiences have given me a chance to realize that you cannot take
anything for granted in life. I believe you have to appreciate all
of your blessings because not everyone has what you
have.”
In the Golden Knights’ record book, Milka finishes his
career fifth all-time among Saint Rose leaders in rebounding (961)
and eighth in scoring (1,550). He was also a two-time Division II
Bulletin Honorable Mention All-America, a two-time NABC and
Daktronics First Team All-East Region choice, a 2013-14 NABC
Reese’s All-Star Game participant and the Northeast-10 Sport
Excellence Winner this past winter.
