Southern Connecticut to Host Crosstown Rival New Haven in Northeast-10 Men’s Basketball Championship Game

In-city rivals to square off Saturday at
1:00 p.m. in 2014 Northeast-10 Championship

After the two teams earned semifinal victories Wednesday night in 2014 Northeast-10 Men's Basketball Championship action, top-seeded Southern Connecticut State University will host crosstown rival and third-seeded University of New Haven on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the conference title game.

So. Connecticut (26-2) held off No. 3 seed Le Moyne College, 62-55, Wednesday at the Moore Field House to earn its spot in the title game, while New Haven (21-7) handled No. 1 seed Saint Anselm College on the road, 85-68, at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

Saturday's title contest will be broadcast at no cost at northeast10.tv, as the webcast is scheduled to go live approximately five minutes before the 1:00 p.m. tip. Also be sure to follow the Northeast-10 on Twitter (@TheNortheast10) for all the latest news and updates.

Saint Anselm (20-7), which was ranked second in Wednesday's third and final NCAA East Region rankings, now awaits a possible NCAA at-large berth. Le Moyne, which came in at No. 7 in the most recent regional rankings, falls to 17-11 with the loss.

MANCHESTER, N.H. –
The Chargers scored a season-high 85 points and also set a season-best mark in field goal percentage at 31-for-56 (55.4 percent) in Wednesday's contest. On the defensive end, the Chargers held a Saint Anselm team averaging 87.3 points per game to a season-low 58 points.
 
Jeffery Adkins led the New Haven offense with 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting and Eric Anderson totaled 21 points and 11 rebounds, plus four blocks, to complete his 19th double-double of the season. Justin Exum also netted 21 points, sparked by three three-pointers, while Cyrus James had seven points to go along with eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

For Saint Anselm, Chris Santo had 13 points and five rebounds and Roy Mabrey added 11 points. Point guard Dino Mallios had five points and six assists.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
So. Connecticut got 16 points and 10 rebounds from Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year Michael Mallory in Wednesday's win over the visiting Dolphins, while Northeast-10 Player of the Year Greg Langston had 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the No. 6 Owls.

Luke Houston added 16 points and seven boards in the win, which gave the region's top-ranked team its 15th straight victory entering Saturday's title tilt against crosstown New Haven.

6-foot-11 Le Moyne center Jim Janson had a game-high 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting plus seven boards in the loss, while Nate Gause had 12 points and eight rebounds.
