Southern New Hampshire, Bentley Advance to Northeast-10 Men's Basketball Championship Quarterfinals

Southern New Hampshire University and Bentley University both earned first-round victories Friday night in the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship, as Bentley, the Northeast Division No. 5 seed, downed Southwest No. 4 seed The College of Saint Rose on the road, 93-79, and Northeast No. 4 seed So. New Hampshire handed Southwest No. 5 seed American International College, 68-53.

With the wins, So. New Hampshire will now travel Sunday to play at Southwest Division top seed Southern Connecticut State University, ranked sixth nationally, at 3:00 p.m., while Northeast top seed Saint Anselm College will host Bentley, also at 3:00 p.m.

In other men's quarterfinal action on Sunday, Northeast No. 3 seed Saint Michael's College will travel to Southwest No. 2 seed University of New Haven (4:00 p.m.) and Northeast No. 2 seed Franklin Pierce University will host Southwest No. 3 seed Le Moyne College (3:00 p.m.).

#4 NE So. New Hampshire 68, #5 SW American Int'l 53 - BOX
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Last year's Northeast-10 Champion Penmen got a game-high 14 points and seven rebounds from last year's Northeast-10 Championship Most Outstanding Player Rodney Sanders in their 68-53 win over American Int'l Friday night.

So. New Hampshire also got nice outputs from Aleksandar Dobrovic, Elijah Bonsignore and Chris Walters in the victory. Dobrovic had 13 points and five steals, Bonsignore registered 12 points and seven boards, and Walters just missed a double-double with an 11-point, nine-rebound effort.

While both teams shot just 38 percent from the field, So. New Hampshire managed to hoist 16 more field goal attempts in the win. 

American Int'l had four score in double figures, led by Spencer Braithwaite with 13 points, eight assists and four rebounds and Marcus Porter's 11 points and 13 boards. The duo did however combine for 11 of the Yellow Jackets' 15 turnovers. American Int'l, which finishes its season at 9-18, also got 12 points apiece from Jason Perrier and Janek Schmidkunz, as all four of the aforemention Yellow Jackets played at least 37 minutes. 

#5 NE Bentley 93, #4 SW Saint Rose 79 - BOX
ALBANY, N.Y. -
Bentley's Keegan Hyland shot 9-of-15 for a season-high 25 points in the Falcons' upset road victory Friday at Saint Rose, as the junior added four rebounds and four assists without committing a turnover.

Andrew Shaw
had 24 points for the Falcons on 9-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-8 form beyond the arc, while Jasper Grassa added 17 points, four boards and three steals in the win.

Saint Rose senior and Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team pick Dominykas Milka registered a monster double-double in the loss, as he went for 28 points (9-17 FG, 10-12 FT) and 12 rebounds in the loss. Teammates Kareem Thomas and Tyler Sayre had 22 points and 15 points, respectively, as teh Golden Knights see their season come to an end at 13-14 overall.
