SCSU Women Set NE10 Championship Record in 400 Medley Relay.


WORCESTER, Mass. - The Southern Connecticut women's 400 medley relay set a Northeast-10 Conference Swimming & Diving Championship record on Friday night, as the Owls - the reigning conference champions - extended their lead on both the men's and women's side at the WPI Sports & Recreation Center. 

The quartet of Hailey NyquistAllyson QuitosJustice Glasgow and Arianna Arturi swam the 400 medley relay in 3:50.64 - surpassing the previous Championship record of 3:51.70 also set by Southern Connecticut in 2017. It was one of Friday's highlight swims, along with a trio of NCAA B-Cut performances by Bentley's Emma Hapkiewicz in the 500 Free (5:02.90), SCSU's Molly Kennedy in the 50 Free (23.74) and Saint Rose's James Henriques in the 50 Free (20.42). 

Two other records were broken in the 100 Back as part of the 400 Medley Relay, as Nyquist swam the opening leg in 55.77 and Adelphi's Ryan Kakimseit swam it in 49.47. Nyquist broke the previous 13-year record held by four-time NCAA champion Amanda Thomas (56.07) from SCSU, while Kakimseit bested the time of SCSU's Christian Berg (50.14). 

The SCSU men's program has tallied 399.5 points after two days at WPI, as it racked up a first-place finish in the Men's 500 Free by Dylan Prescher (4:36.94) and a second-place finish in the 200 Free Relay (1:23.66) on Friday. Bentley is a distant second with 287 points and Saint Rose is third with 204 points. 

Adelphi secured mutltiple first-place finishes with Cooper Rivers winning the 200 IM in a time of 1:51.30 and the 400 Medley Relay winning with a time of 3:22.61. Saint Rose was led by Henriques, who won the 50 Free and was part of the 200 Free Relay that the Golden Knights won in a time of 1:23.36. 

The SCSU women currently sit in first with 382 points - 60 points ahead of second-place Bentley - following first-place finishes in the 200 IM by Brooke Keeney (2:06.91) the 50 Free by Kennedy, the 200 Free Relay (1:35.22) and the 400 Medley Relay (3:50.64). Arturi, Glasgow and Nyquist were all on the 200 Free Relay and 400 Medley Relay squads. 

Diving finals also began on Friday, as Pace's Sean Rorke cruised to gold in the men's 3-meter dive with 440.70 points and Bentley's Hilla Almog won the women's 1-meter dive with 429.45 points. 

Day three action begins on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. with prelims in the 1-meter men's diving, 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast and 100 Back. Catch all the action on NE10NOW.tv and visit Championship Central for heat sheets and live results.
