Franklin Pierce and Pace Advance to Final Day of NE10 Baseball Championship Weekend

Day 2 of Baseball Championship Weekend - 2023

First Pitch on Saturday is Scheduled for 11 A.M.


SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Franklin Pierce and Pace will play for the Northeast-10 Conference Baseball Championship on Saturday, following three games on Friday that saw both Bentley and tournament host Le Moyne eliminated. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m., with a second game to follow - if necessary - approximately 35 minutes after the conclusion of game one. 

Franklin Pierce eliminated Bentley in the first game on Friday at Dick Rockwell Field by an 8-3 margin and followed that up by eliminating Le Moyne in the final game of the day by a 12-7 score. Pace defeated Le Moyne in the second game, 8-2, which is what put Le Moyne on the brink of elimination in the third game. 

Due to the double-elimination format, Franklin Pierce will need to beat Pace twice on Saturday - while Pace needs just one victory to earn its first-ever NE10 Baseball Championship title. Watch the game(s) on Saturday on NE10NOW.tv - the Conference's digital streaming platform. 


(2 NE) Franklin Pierce 8, (4 NE) Bentley 3 – Box Score

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Franklin Pierce's Joel Lara went 3-for-3 with with one run and two RBI to help the Ravens stave-off elimination in Friday's first game with an 8-3 win over Bentley in the NE10 Baseball Championship Weekend at Dick Rockwell Field. Franklin Pierce eliminated Bentley with the victory. 

Lara, Ian Battipaglia and Joey Acker recorded RBI hits for Franklin Pierce, while pitcher Hunter Reynolds allowed two earned runs in five innings while striking out seven. Stephen Bangs pitched three scoreless innings in relief to secure the win for the Ravens. 

Bentley's Stan DeMartinis III had a big game, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two RBI and two runs scored in the losing effort. Ryan Glupe, the Falcons' starter, surrendered four earned runs in just 1.1 innings of work, picking up the loss on the mound.

Franklin Pierce advanced to Friday's third game, an elimination game against top-seeded Le Moyne. 


(3 SW) Pace 8, (1 SW) Le Moyne 2 - Box Score

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Four players had multiple hits for Pace, while starter Vincent Civitella allowed just one run on four hits in six innings of work to lead the Setters to an 8-2 upset win over the Southwest Division's top seed Le Moyne in the second game on Friday, as part of NE10 Baseball Championship Weekend. 

It was a three-run sixth and a four-run ninth that helped Pace to the victory - led by Josh Miller's 3-for-5 day and two-RBI hits from both Mitch McCabe and Hunter Goldstein. Miller tied the game, 1-1, in the fifth inning with an RBI single, and Pace took the lead in the next inning off Le Moyne starter Jacob Crystal with RBI hits from Matthew Rinaldi and Goldstein. 

Civitella earned the win and Michael Roll pitched three solid innings of relief, as the duo combined for seven strikeouts and four walks in the win.

Pace advances to Saturday, where it will need to win just one game to earn the NE10 title. The Setters will need to be defeated twice by XXX in the double-elimination tournament at Dick Rockwell Field. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. on NE10NOW.tv


(2 NE) Franklin Pierce 12, (1 SW) Le Moyne 7 - Box Score

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Behind a seven-run fourth inning and a 14-hit attack, Franklin Pierce eliminated Le Moyne - the top seed in the Southwest Division - by a 12-7 margin on the second day of the NE10's Baseball Championship Weekend. Joel Lara had a four-hit game, while four teammates had multiple RBI to lead the Ravens. 

The Ravens jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but Le Moyne reclaimed the advantage in the bottom half by scoring six runs off starter Chaz Powell before an out was recorded. Franklin Pierce's Danny Gracia came on in relief and pitched a complete nine innings - surrendering just one run on seven hits to help the Ravens reach the final day of the NE10 Baseball Championship. 

Le Moyne's Nick Nevins and Andrew Roden hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning to lead the charge for the Dolphins offensively. Starting pitcher AJ Petraitis allowed nine earned runs on eight hits in three innings of work to pick up the loss. 

Franklin Pierce advances to play Pace on Saturday, but will need to beat the Setters twice due to the double-elimination format. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. and a second game will follow, if necessary, approximately 35 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
