ALL-STAR BOX SCORE

Gray Was Selected for First-Career All-Star Game Appearance.

MANSFIELD, Mass. - Josiah Gray, a former standout pitcher in the Northeast-10 Conference, made his debut appearance in the Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Game on Tuesday night at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. A current pitcher for the Washington Nationals, Gray was an All-American player at Le Moyne College.

Gray - now in his third season as a Major League pitcher - threw a perfect third inning on Tuesday, retiring fellow All-Stars Josh JungJonah Heim and Marcus Semien in order. Gray helped the National League to a 3-2 victory, its first All-Star win since 2012.

In 18 starts for the Nationals this season, Gray has a 6-7 record with a 3.41 ERA. In 100.1 innings of work, he has a 92-47 strikeout-to-walk ratio and leads all Washington pitchers in wins above replacement (WAR) at 2.5 - a measure of a player's value in all facets of the game by deciphering how many more wins he's worth than a replacement-level player at the same position. It is his third season with the Nationals, where he has compiled a 15-19 record across 58 starts.

Gray made his MLB debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021, before being traded to Washington in a blockbuster deal that included big-name talent in Max Scherzer and Trea Turner. He had been in the Dodgers' system since December of 2018, when he was traded by the Cincinnati Reds - the team that selected him in the second round (72nd overall) of the 2018 MLB Draft out of Le Moyne.

During his collegiate career at Le Moyne, Gray posted a sparkling 1.70 ERA with a 12-2 record over the course of three seasons. He recorded 136 strikeouts to just 27 walks and allowed just 86 hits across 116.1 innings on the mound. His breakout season came in 2018, when Gray was 11-0 in 13 starts with a 1.25 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 93.1 innings. He was named D2CCA and NCBWA Division II Pitcher of the Year and a First Team All-American, as well as the NE10 Pitcher of the Year.
