Adelphi Takes Home Three Major Awards

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Southern Connecticut's Jacqueline Dumont was selected as the Northeast-10 Player of the Year as the NE10 released its All-Conference awards on Wednesday.

Dumont earned Player of the Year following an outstanding season in which she led the Owls to the NE10 Tournament. She's the second player from SCSU to earn Player of the Year honors. St. Michael's Jenna Devens was honored as the Rookie of the Year, the second Purple Knight to receive the award.

NE10 Regular Season Champion Adelphi had three major award winners, highlighted by Claire Fon as the NE10 Pitcher of the Year. Angela Lignelli was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year while Carla Campagna earned Coach of the Year honors. Adelphi and Saint Anselm each had six honorees each to lead all programs.

Dumont batted a league-best .429 in conference play while finishing third in slugging (.702) with 36 hits, 26 RBI, 16 runs and eight doubles. She concluded the year on a nine-game hitting streak as the Owls went 4-1-1 to finish the regular season and earn the No. 8 seed in the NE10 Tournament. Dumont also only struck out three times in 84 NE10 plate appearances.

Fon was dominant in the circle for the Panthers, going 13-1 with one save and an NE10-best 0.61 ERA. She made 18 appearances overall and tossed 91.2 innings while allowing just eight earned runs with 87 strikeouts and only 15 walks. She allowed just two earned runs over her final 11 appearances of the regular season as Adelphi went 10-1 during that span.

Lignelli was honored for her work behind the plate with the Panthers. She helped her pitching staff to a NE10-low 1.03 ERA in conference play, 1.04 lower than any other team. She led the conference in total chances (220) and put outs (209) while also posting a .991 fielding percentage. She only allowed four steals in conference play, the lowest mark in the NE10.

Devens displayed impressive power in her first season at St. Michael's, ranking second in conference play in both slugging (.740) and home runs (8). She finished conference play with a .351 average, .407 on-base percentage, 27 hits and 12 runs scored. Devens also had six doubles and finished the season on a nine-game hit streak.
