SNHU, Assumption Earn 1-0 Victories in NE10 Second Round Action

CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

Assumption and SNHU Advance to Friday's Semifinals.

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Offense was tough to come by as No. 6 Assumption and No. 4 Southern New Hampshire both secured 1-0 victories on Thursday to advance to Friday's NE10 Softball Championship Semifinals.

Due to weather concerns, SNHU's contest against Adelphi has been moved up to an 8:30 am start on Friday in Garden City, while the Greyhounds will play Saint Anselm on the campus of Pace University at 9 a.m.

No. 4 Southern New Hampshire 1, No. 8 Southern Connecticut 0 – Box Score - SNHU Recap

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Leine McKechnie tossed a two-hitter and No. 4 Southern New Hampshire scored its only run in the bottom of the sixth inning to hold off No. 8 seed Southern Connecticut 1-0 on Thursday afternoon.

Mckechnie gave up the two hits and retired the last ten batters of the game in order to win her 10th contest of the year. Emily Carbonneau supplied the offense, with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to provide the 1-0 cushion.

SCSU's best chance to score came in the fourth inning with runners on first and second with two outs and Jayden Delaporta at the plate. However, Ally Petrella was thrown out trying to steal third, ending the scoring threat. Jessica Perucki took the loss for the Owls, despite giving up just four hits and striking out five batters.

No. 6 Assumption 1, No. 3 Franklin Pierce 0 – Box Score - Assumption Recap

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Greyhounds loaded the bases in the first inning and scored the only run they would need in that frame as Anna Tassone did the rest to lift No. 6 Assumption to the 1-0 upset of No. 3 Franklin Pierce in the second round of the 2022 NE10 Softball Championship.

Tassone earned her sixth victory of the season by allowing just six hits without a walk against the top hitting offense in the conference. She didn't strike out a batter and also didn't allow an extra base hit in the contest. Sabrina Gonzalez took the loss as she allowed three hits with one run and six strikeouts in 7.0 innings.

Assumption loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning and Abigail Larson eventually came through with an RBI walk to provide a 1-0 lead. Franklin Pierce was able to put runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings but never able to drive in the game-tying run.
