Fon Named D2CCA East Region Pitcher of the Year.
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Adelphi's Claire Fon has been named the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) East Region Pitcher of the Year, highlighting the group of 12 softball student-athletes from the Northeast-10 Conference who earned a total of 19 selections on All-East Region teams this week.
Fon, the NE10 Pitcher of the Year, was recently named the Most Outstanding Player at the NE10 Softball Championship after posting 10.1 scoreless innings in Adelphi's 2-0 win over Saint Anselm – helping the Panthers to their fourth league title in program history. She leads all NE10 pitchers in ERA (0.79) and is tied for the lead in wins (21) this season.
Adelphi had a league-high four players selected to All-Region, led by Fon who earned First Team honors from both the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and D2CCA. Fon's teammates Lindsey Hibbs and Courtney Wengryn earned honors from both organizations, while Ziara Shreter was recognized by the NFCA on Second Team.
Additionally, Adelphi was named the NFCA East Region Coaching Staff of the Year - consisting of head coach Carla Campagna and assistant coach Lou Vanacore. The Panthers won the NE10 Championship for the fourth time in program history this past Sunday in extra innings against Saint Anselm.
Franklin Pierce had three players selected, including Ashley Cangiano – a D2CCA First Team All-Region player. Southern Connecticut's Jacqueline Dumont, the NE10 Player of the Year, was a First Team selection for both the NFCA and D2CCA.
