Adelphi, Saint Anselm to Meet in NE10 Softball Championship Game for Third-Straight Year

Softball Semifinal Recap

CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

Game Scheduled for Saturday at 12 P.M.

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Northeast-10 Conference Softball Championship's top seeds - Adelphi and Saint Anselm - both secured wins on Friday in the Championship semifinals to set up a meeting on Saturday with the NE10 title on the line. It is the third-straight year (also 2019 and 2021) that the two teams will face-off in the Championship final, with Saint Anselm winning each of those previous contests.

No. 1 Adelphi shutout No. 4 Southern New Hampshire, 2-0, while No. 2 Saint Anselm hung on for a 5-4 victory against No. 6 Assumption in a game played at Pace University. First pitch for the Championship final is set for Saturday at 12 p.m. and will be streamed on NE10 NOW. Check back on northeast10.org or @TheNortheast10 on Twitter for weather-related updates.

No. 1 Adelphi 2, No. 4 Southern New Hampshire 0 – Box Score

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Despite the rain and game time changes, the Adelphi softball team won the Northeast-10 Championship semifinal contest over the fourth-seeded Southern New Hampshire on Friday morning, 2-0.

Adelphi (40-11) had seven hits to Southern New Hampshire's (23-20-1) one. Lindsey Hibbs retired 13 Penmen and only allowed one hti and five baserunners - with only one advancing to second. She now has 266 strikeouts on the season, and is the Adelphi's single-season record holder as a Division II program.

Faith Camilleri hit a lead-off home run to start the second inning and give the Panthers a 1-0 lead they held through the fourth inning. The home team loaded the bases in the fourth and back-to-back outs ended the inning, leaving all runners stranded.

One inning later, the Panthers sent one more run across the dish for a 2-0 score. Ziara Shreter poked a single to left field that advanced Lauren O'Neill to third, who reached on a walk to start the inning. Alexa Sacripante followed up with a single to center field that scored O'Neill and secured the win.

No. 1 Adelphi will now host No. 2 Saint Anselm for the NE10 Championship game scheduled for Saturday, May 7 at 12 p.m. The Panthers took both games from the Hawks during the regular season, and look to win their first conference title since 2018. This year's match-up will be a repeat of the 2019 and 2021 championship.

No. 2 Saint Anselm 5, No. 6 Assumption 4 – Box Score

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Staring at a 4-0 deficit in the team's first Northeast-10 Conference postseason game, the Saint Anselm softball team scored five unanswered runs to claim a 5-4 victory over Assumption on Friday in the NE10 semifinals.

The No. 2 seed in the NE10 postseason, the Hawks (28-14) have earned a spot in the league's championship game at noon on Saturday in Garden City, N.Y. For the third consecutive championship series, Saint Anselm will battle Adelphi – as the Hawks have claimed league titles over the Panthers in those last two meetings (2019, 2021).

Assumption (20-26) took advantage of four unearned runs in the top of the second before the Hawks settled in to score five runs in the next three half-innings to log their third win of the season over the Greyhounds.

Sophomore Haile Hicks, the team's lone First Team All-Conference selection, improved to 21-3 on the season by striking out eight batters and conceding zero earned runs on the day. Hicks moves into 10th in single-season history with 153 strikeouts on the season and she joins Morgan Perry '21 as one of just two pitchers with at least 21 wins in a single season.

Junior Kate Irwin had an outstanding game for Saint Anselm out of the nine hole, driving in three runs with an RBI triple before a game-tying two-run single to left-center field. Establishing a career-high in batting average this season (.279), Irwin has posted 34 hits in 122 at-bats in 42 games for the Hawks.

Saint Anselm is looking for its third NE10 postseason championship on Saturday. The Hawks are also in search of yet another NCAA postseason appearance, winning the program's second East Region Championship in 2021.
