High Seeds Advance to NE10 Volleyball Championship Semifinals in Springfield

AIC to Serve as Host for Friday's Semifinals and Saturday's Final.


MANSFIELD, Mass. - It was status quo in the Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball Championship quarterfinals on Tuesday night, as all four high seeds - American International, New Haven, Stonehill and Bentley - won to advance to Friday's semifinals, which will be hosted by the top-seeded Yellow Jackets at Butova Gymnasium in Springfield, Mass. 

No. 1 AIC will play No. 4 Bentley in a rematch of the 2019 NE10 Championship final in the early game on Friday at 5 p.m. Following that match, No. 2 New Haven will take on No. 3 Stonehill, with an approximate start time of 7:30 p.m. The winners of the semifinal matches will advance to Saturday's final. 


(1) American International 3, (8) Assumption 0 - Box Score

AIC, the NE10 regular season champion, ran to a three-set victory over No. 8 Assumption in the NE10 Volleyball Championship quarterfinals on Tuesday at the Butova Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets, NE10 finalists in each of the past two seasons, will look to secure its first postseason league title since 1996. 

Graduate student Andrea Serra-Rosa came up with a huge 18-kill (6.0 kills per set), 11-dig double-double to lead the Yellow Jackets, while sophomore Naomi Eckert-Rivera averaged over 14 assists per set. AIC will host No. 4 Bentley on Friday in the NE10 Championship semifinals at 5 p.m. 


(2) New Haven 3, (7) SNHU 1 - Box Score

Four players had 10 or more kills and three had double-doubles for New Haven on Tuesday night, as the Chargers eliminated Southern New Hampshire in the NE10 Volleyball Championship quarterfinals. Freshman Macy Brown had 14 kills and 13 digs, while senior Jessica Akiona tallied 12 kills and 17 digs in the win. 

New Haven will move on to play third-seeded Stonehill in the semifinals on Friday night at approximately 7:30 p.m. - live from the Butova Gymnasium in Springfield, Mass. In 12 years of NE10 Championship appearances, New Haven has won six league titles. The Skyhawks will look to play spoiler on Saturday with a trip to the NE10 finals on the line. 


(3) Stonehill 3, (6) Saint Anselm 1 - Box Score

Third-seeded Stonehill edged sixth-seeded Saint Anselm on Tuesday night in the NE10 Volleyball Championship quarterfinals at the Merkert Gymnasium, advancing to the NE10 Championship semifinals for the second-straight season under head coach Craig Martin. Each set between the Skyhawks and Hawks was determined by just two points (27-25, 24-26, 26-24, 25-23), the slimmest margin in the sport. 

Senior Abby Remick posted a double-double of 16 kills and 11 digs to lead Stonehill's attack. Senior Shannon Burgess added 14 kills and three blocks assists in the win. The Skyhawks will play second-seeded New Haven in the second semifinal on Friday at AIC - starting at approximately 7:30 p.m. 


(4) Bentley 3, (5) SCSU 1 - Box Score

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Ellie Wheeler had 17 kills, the 12th straight match she's reached double figures, and freshman Jazzy Burke served a career-high six aces as fourth-seeded Bentley began defense of the Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball Championship it won in 2019 with a four-set victory over No. 5 Southern Connecticut State Tuesday night at the Dana Center.

The 25-21, 30-28, 18-25, 25-19 quarterfinal win propelled the Falcons (15-11) into Friday's semifinals at American International College. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
