Eight Athletes Give Time to Unitarian Church's Annual Fundraiser.
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - With families searching for that perfect pumpkin to put on their doorstep this fall season, the Adelphi track and field student-athletes recently lent a hand to the nearby Unitarian Church to assist with their annual Pumpkin Patch efforts.
As the church lays out a field of pumpkins every weekend to raise funds for charity, the team assisted with the initial delivery, unloading the pumpkins and wheeling them over to their designated areas for drop-off.
The Unitarian Church opens their Pumpkin Patch to the general public annually in October, in the spirit of the festive fall season and Halloween.
The eight Panthers who volunteered were Bryan Combary, Andre Francis, Amari Johnson, Chukwubuikem Nwanko, Bryce Ridley, Nikki Searles, Gabrielle Stafford and Matthew Wenz.
"I thought that it was a great way to show our support within our community and work with such a wonderful group of people," said Combary.
"We had a great time helping out (at the Pumpkin Patch)," Wenz added. "Being able to give back to the community and doing it with my teammates was very gratifying. I can't wait to do it next year."
