MANSFIELD, Mass., - Southern Connecticut State is gunning for NE10 history this spring, and in the conference's 2024 Outdoor Track & Field Preseason Poll, the league's coaches predict the Owls to get there.
Already the NE10 cross country and indoor track & field champions on both the men's and women's side, the Owls have now been selected to win both outdoor titles in a vote by the conference's head coaches. The SCSU men received six of nine first-place votes while the women captured seven of the poll's 10.
Should SCSU win both championships this spring, it would mark just the fourth time in Northeast-10 history that one institution captured all six championships in the same academic year. Southern Connecticut is the only school to have accomplished the feat previously, sweeping in 2007, 2008 and 2011.
Adelphi was resoundingly chosen to finish second on the women's side, mimicking the Panthers' indoor performance. Adelphi received two first place votes and were the only team in the conference on either side to be selected no lower than second on any ballot.
The men's poll saw four teams receive first place votes with New Haven and Franklin Pierce checking in behind SCSU at second and third.
The NE10 will crown the 2024 champion at the league's meet on May 3rd and 4th at Southern Connecticut State University.
