New Haven Football Presented with 2021 NE10 Championship Trophy

New Haven Football - 2021

RECAP: NEW HAVEN FOOTBALL CLINCHES NE10 TITLE

Chargers Were Undefeated in NE10 Play During 2021 Season.

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The New Haven football program was officially presented its trophy for the 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Wednesday night during halftime of the men's basketball game against crosstown rival Southern Connecticut at Charger Gymnasium. NE10 Commissioner Julie Ruppert was in attendance to award the trophy.

New Haven team captains -  Brett Huber, Affiz Din Gabisi and Mike Zecchin - accepted the trophy on behalf of the New Haven program. The 2021 NE10 title is the fourth football championship won by New Haven since joining the Conference in 2009 (2010-12).

In addition to the championship trophy, Michael Wilson was recognized as the 2021 NE10 Elite 24 Award winner in football after earning a 3.84 GPA as a national security major. The Elite 24 honors the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the finals site of each NE10 Championship. Because football has no championship game, the Elite 24 Award is given to the student-athlete on the championship team with the highest GPA.

During the ceremony, Mike Zecchin was recognized as the NE10 Offensive Lineman of the Year and Chris Pincince as the NE10 Coach of the Year. Zecchin also earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team at the offensive line position when the league awards were announced in November.

On Nov. 6, 2021, New Haven beat Bentley by a 31-14 margin to clinch its first NE10 title since 2012. The Chargers went on to finish the regular season with an unbeaten 8-0 mark in conference play and qualified for the NCAA Division II Football Championship.
