Assumption Pulls Off Upset at Adelphi in First Round of NE10 Men's Basketball Championship

MANSFIELD, Mass. - The Northeast-10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship began on Friday night with one upset, as Assumption - the No. 6 seed in the Northeast Divison - earned a win in their first round matchup against the Southwest Division's No. 3 seed Adelphi in Garden City, N.Y.

The Greyhounds advance to Monday's quarterfinals, as well as the Northeast Division's No. 4 seed Stonehill after its 58-52 win against Le Moyne. Three more first round games are scheduled for Saturday, with all contests available live and for free on NE10 NOW - the Conference's digital platform.

Andrew Sims scored 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting to lead the Northeast Division's No. 4 seed Stonehill to a 58-52 win over the Southwest Division's No. 5 seed Le Moyne on Friday night at the Merkert Gymnasium. The Skyhawks advance to Monday's quarterfinals to play at top-seeded Pace at 7:30 p.m. 

The Skyhawks outscored the Dolphins in the second half, 33-21, on their way to the victory. Stonehill's defense limited Le Moyne to a 33.3-percent shooting mark from the field, including 1-of-11 from three-point range. 


No. 6 Assumption (NE) 80, No. 3 Adelphi 69 - Box Score

The Northeast Division's No. 6-seed Assumption pulled-off an upset over the Southwest Division's No. 3 seed Adelphi, 80-69, in Garden City on Friday night in the first round of the NE10 Men's Basketball Championship. Omar El Sheikh had a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Greyhounds, while Isiah Gaiter netted a game-high 21 points. 

Assumption shot 56-percent from the field as a team, including 9-of-17 (.529) from long range, to advance to Monday's quarterfinal round against the winner of Saturday's game between Franklin Pierce and American International.
