Saint Anselm Edges New Haven in OT Thriller; Men's Basketball Semifinals Set for Thursday

MANSFIELD, Mass. - A thrilling overtime game between No. 2-seeded New Haven and No. 3-seeded Saint Anselm highlighted Monday night's Northeast-10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship quarterfinals. Top-seeded Bentley and Pace advanced and will host Thursday's semifinals. 

Saint Anselm's Chris Paul scored 40 points on 16-of-27 shooting to lead Saint Anselm past New Haven, earning a road game at Northeast Division rival Bentley on Thursday. Pace will welcome No. 2 seed Franklin Pierce in the semifinals. All games are available live and for free on NE10 NOW - the Conference's digital platform. 


No. 1 Bentley (NE) 93, No. 4 Saint Rose (SW) 65 - Box Score

WALTHAM, Mass. – Graduate guard Jordan Mello-Klein, named a First Team All-Conference player earlier in the day, displayed why with 22 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four three-pointers as Bentley University earned its 20th win of the season, 93-65 over The College of Saint Rose in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Basketball Championships Monday night at the Dana Center.

The wire-to-wire win propelled the 20th-ranked Falcons into Thursday semifinals where they will take on Saint Anselm College at home. The Hawks advanced with an 81-79 OT victory at the University of New Haven.

Bentley, which reached the 20-win mark for the first time since 2015-16 and the 17th time in program history, was in control from the start with leads of 4-0, 10-3 and 18-5. The 20-4 Falcons sank four of their 15 three-pointers in the opening eight minutes while the Golden Knights misfired on 13 of their first 15 shot attempts.


No. 1 Pace (SW) 83, No. 4 Stonehill (NE) 73 - Box Score

Bryan Powell, a First Team All-Conference selection, scored a game-best 24 points to lead No. 1-seeded Pace to an 83-73 win over No. 4-seeded Stonehill on Monday night in the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship quarterfinals. The Setters advance to Thursday's semifinals and will host No. 2-seeded Franklin Pierce.

As a team, Pace was very efficient - shooting 31-of-55 (.564) - with four scorers in double figures. The Setters built a 10-point lead in the first half, the eventual winning margin. It is Pace's first trip to the NE10 Championship semifinals since the 2006-07 season. 


No. 2 Franklin Pierce (NE) 86, No. 6 Assumption (NE) 73 - Box Score

RINDGE, N.H. – The Franklin Pierce men's basketball team got down to brass tax in the quarterfinal round of the NE10 Championship, defeating #6 seeded Assumption University by a final score of 86-73. Five separate players hit the double-digit mark on the score sheet in the effort, with junior guard Isaiah Moore and junior forward Maxwell Zegarowski leading the way for the Ravens.

Moore scored a game-high 23 points, while Zegarowski netted 16, and the Ravens shot 50-percent (31-of-62) from the field as a team. Franklin Pierce advances to its first NE10 Men's Basketball Championship semifinal since the 2012-13 season. 


No. 3 Saint Anselm 81, No. 2 New Haven (SW) 79 (OT) - Box Score

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Chris Paul scored a career-high 40 points on Monday, fueling an 81-79 overtime victory for the Saint Anselm men's basketball team at New Haven in the Northeast-10 Conference Quarterfinals.

Saint Anselm, the No. 3 seed in the Northeast Division, improves to 17-9 overall on the season following its first overtime game of the 2021-22 campaign. The Hawks move on to face the No. 1 seed in the Northeast Division, Bentley, on Thursday, Mar. 3 in an NE10 Semifinals game time to be determined.

Paul scored 13 consecutive points to begin the game and finished the first half of play with 24 to his credit. Sending home the game-winning basket with two seconds left in overtime, Paul finished with a career-high 40 points and added team-leading totals in rebounds (seven), assists (six), steals (four) and blocks (one).
