Week 8 - April 11, 2022
NE10 Player of the Week
Andrew Eng, Southern Connecticut
Senior | Outfield | Ridgewood, N.J.
Eng fell short of perfection by a single hit as he went 7-for-8 with two doubles, three home runs, five runs scored and three walks while slashing .875/.917/2.250 in a 3-0 week for Southern. Against Saint Rose, Eng homered twice and drove in four runs in a 7-6 come-from-behind win that included the go-ahead run in the win against the Golden Knights. Against Adelphi, he was 3-for-4 with a three-run homer, and a two-run double and missed the cycle by a triple in a 16-0 win. In the nightcap, Eng was 1-for-1 with two walks and a run scored in a 4-1 win to lead the Owls to the doubleheader sweep against first-place Adelphi.
NE10 Pitcher of the Week
Patrick Gleason, Pace
Junior | Pitcher | Valhalla, N.Y.
Gleason went the distance in a pair of Pace wins last week. The right-hander allowed just two runs in 14.0 innings of work (1.29 ERA) in victories over Adelphi and AIC. He finished with 10 strikeouts while improving his record to 4-2 this season.
NE10 Rookie of the Week
Steve Phillips, Southern Connecticut
Freshman | Pitcher | Watertown, Conn.
Phillips improved to 6-1 on the season after holding Adelphi scoreless over six innings while scattering four hits and striking out seven with no walks in a 16-0 win for the Owls.
NE10 Weekly Honor Roll
Jack Choate, Assumption (Jr., P - North Grafton, Mass.)
Choate threw another gem in a 7-2 victory over Stonehill on Sunday. The junior pitched a complete seven-inning game in which he allowed three hits and struck out 12. Choate has now recorded double-digit strikeouts in four straight and five of his six starts this spring.
Tim Zupkus, Bentley (Jr., RF - Middlebury, Conn.)
In a doubleheader sweep at St. Michael's, Zupkus shined with both his bat and his glove. He was four-for-seven at the plate with a double, two runs scored and three RBI. In the third inning of the opener, he came up with arguably the catch of the year in the conference as he went over the right field catch to prevent a two-run home run.
Jacob Marshall, Le Moyne (Jr., P - Baldwinsville, N.Y.)
Marshall tossed a shutout with 10 strikeouts and allowed just two hits in Le Moyne's 1-0 seven-inning victory over New Haven on Sunday. He struck out a pair of batters in four different innings and did not allow a baserunner past second base.
Michael Smith, Le Moyne (Sr., OF - Montebello, N.Y.)
Smith slashed .571/.600/1.214 with three home runs, seven RBI and five runs scored in Le Moyne's 3-1 week. He tied a program record with three home runs to go with six RBI and four runs scored in a 16-10 win over D'Youville on Tuesday. He went 3-for-4 with a run scored in a 3-2 loss to New Haven on Sunday and then went 2-for-3 and drove in the lone run of the game in a 1-0 win over the Chargers in the nightcap.
Robert Taylor, New Haven (Jr, OF - Wolcott, Conn.)
Taylor led the Chargers bats with seven hits across 13 at bats in a three-game week. He hit safely in all three games, with the highlight of the week coming in the series opener against Le Moyne where he finished 4-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs which accounted for his two RBI on the week. He also scored five runs, two against assumption and was part of all three runs scored in the 3-2 series opening win over the Dolphins.
Luke Jacobi, Pace (Sr., OF - Edison, N.J.)
Jacobi was red hot during a 3-2 stretch for the Setters last week. The New Jersey native had a hit in every game en route to batting .591 with nine RBIs and nine runs scored. Jacobi capped off the week with a 6-for-6 performance in Pace's 17-8 win over AIC on Sunday. He also picked up four stolen bases during the stretch, while hitting a double in each of the Setters' last four contests.
Kyle Maurice, Saint Anselm (Sr., 1B - Exeter, N.H.)
Maurice batted an even .500 (8-16) in a four-game series with No. 12 Southern New Hampshire. The senior drove in three runs while scoring seven times. Maurice opened the series with a hit, walk, and stolen base before going four-for-five with three runs scored, aiding the Hawks to a 13-11 win. Maurice was two-for-three in the Saint Anselm 11-8 win with three more runs scored before launching a two-run home run to keep the Hawks within striking distance in the finale. Maurice also extended his hit streak to 11 games in the series.
Zephaniah Vaughn, Saint Rose (Jr., OF - Harlem, N.Y.)
Vaughn batted .462 (6-for-13) with a pair of doubles, five RBI, and two runs scored throughout a 1-2 week for the Golden Knights.
Nick Schwartz, Southern N.H. (So., C - Massapequa, N.Y.)
Schwartz slashed .350/.409/.850/1.259, as he went 7-for-20 with five extra-base hits, two home runs, eight RBI and five runs scored, during a 3-2 week for the Penmen. Schwartz, who currently owns a 14-game hitting streak, was 1-for-3 with three RBI in a 5-3 victory at Bridgeport on Tuesday. Schwartz then went 2-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored in a 9-8, 10-inning win against Saint Anselm on Thursday.
Blaine Lidsky, Stonehill (Jr, C/OF - South Kingston, R.I.)
In his three games last weekend, Lidsky batted .500 (6-12), posted an on-base percentage of .538, belted one home run, and drove in three. In Saturday's 6-5 win over Assumption, Lidsky came up with the clutch eventual game-winning RBI triple in the 12th inning that gave Stonehill their first lead in the game. During Sunday's first game, Lidsky recorded two RBI which also included his team-leading seventh home run. Along with leading the team in home runs, Lidsky is now tied for the NE10 lead in home runs.
