Ryan Tosses No-Hitter; Le Moyne Eliminated on Thursday.

MANSFIELD, Mass. - Assumption's Shea Ryan tossed a no-hitter against Le Moyne on Thursday as part of the first day of the Northeast-10 Conference Baseball Championship Weekend, staving off elimination for the host Greyhounds and helping them advance to Friday. Top seeds Adelphi and Southern New Hampshire also moved on.

Facing elimination after a loss to Adelphi earlier in the day, Ryan extended Assumption's postseason life by not allowing a hit in his complete-game shutout over the Dolphins. Three teams remain in Championship Weekend, as Le Moyne was eliminated after back-to-back losses to Southern New Hampshire and Assumption.

Adelphi and Southern New Hampshire will play first on Friday at 12 p.m. The loser will take on Assumption approximately 35 minutes after the conclusion of that game. All games during Championship Weekend will be streamed live on NE10NOW.tv

(1) Adelphi 9, (3) Assumption 3 – Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. - On Thursday, the Adelphi baseball team made the trip up to Worcester for the resumption of the 2022 NE10 Baseball Championship. As the double-elimination portion of the tournament got underway, the top-seeded Panthers (30-11-2) moved into Friday's winner's bracket with a 9-3 come-from-behind victory over No. 3 seed Assumption at Rocheleau Field.

Adelphi now has 13 come-from-behind victories this season and three in as many games.

Michael Storms made the start for the Panthers and while Assumption (22-22) tagged him for three early runs, the southpaw settled in and faced only two over the minimum the rest of the way. In the meantime, the Panther bats went on the offensive. The hero was Anthony Cipri.

After Alec Maag plated a pair with a fourth-inning RBI single that pulled Adelphi within 3-2, Cipri went the opposite way for a game-tying double down the left-field line in the fifth. On his next turn in the seventh, Cipri delivered the spark for a six-run seventh inning with a tiebreaking two-RBI single up the middle.

Adelphi will play Southern New Hampshire on Friday at 12 p.m.

(1) Southern New Hampshire 7, (3) Le Moyne 0 - Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. - Graduate student Josh Roberge tossed a complete-game shutout and senior Sam Henrie went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI as Southern New Hampshire opened with a 7-0 win over Le Moyne at the Northeast-10 Championship.  The 8th ranked Penmen will meet Adelphi in a winner's bracket game on Friday at noon at Assumption.

  • The Penmen scored three times in the bottom of the first inning.  Redshirt sophomore Danniel Rivera led off with a walk, and Mercedes singled him over to third.  Henrie grounded out to make it 1-0, then an RBI single by Schwartz and run-scoring double by senior Dakota Mulcay put SNHU up 3-0.
  • Henrie hit his 11th homer of the season with two outs in the fifth and Schwartz followed with a single, scoring on a misplayed fly by Mulcay to extend the lead to 5-0.
  • In the eighth, redshirt freshman Anthony Poole reached on an error, followed by walks to senior Ricky Jimenez and graduate student Idelson Taveras. Rivera's sac fly produced one run, and Mercedes knocked in Jimenez with a single to right field.
  • Nick Nevens led the Dolphins with two singles.

(3) Assumption 4, (3) Le Moyne 0 - Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. – With help from his defense, Shea Ryan threw a no-hitter as the Assumption baseball team defeated Le Moyne by a 4-0 score to stay alive in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament on Thursday at Rocheleau Field. The Greyhounds also dropped a 9-3 decision to Adelphi earlier in the day.

Facing elimination in its second game of the day, Assumption regrouped and downed Le Moyne by getting timely hitting, a gem on the mound from Ryan, and excellent defense in both the infield and outfield.

Senior Nick Gagliotti broke a scoreless tie by slapping a two-run double down the first base line in the top of the second, as the Greyhounds once again batted as the visitors due to the result of a coin toss. Insurance runs came home when junior Emilio Acosta reached on a fielder's choice in the seventh and Rabias followed with a two-run shot down the line in right in the eighth frame.

Ryan, meanwhile, controlled the mound with Rabias making calls from behind the plate. Le Moyne (26-23) was only able to draw walks and get an additional base runner as the result of an infield error. His defense also helped him out, as Wironen and Acosta made diving catches in center and right field, respectively, and junior Kevin Cox and Gaglioti came up with key plays at third base and first base over the course of the game. Ryan eventually retired the three Dolphins he saw in the ninth in order, which was capped by a flyout to left, in the bottom of the ninth to seal the no-hitter and victory for the Greyhounds.
