Marc Danin Named Head Coach of Adelphi Swimming & Diving

Danin Selected to Lead Adelphi Men's & Women's Swimming and Diving Programs

Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation Danny McCabe has chosen Marc Danin to lead the University's men's and women's swimming and diving programs, effective Wednesday, Oct. 6.

No stranger to the Long Island swimming scene, Danin is the owner of the Islanders Aquatics Club, based out of Suffolk County, which he started in 2011. There, he is responsible for managing three accredited USA Swimming competitive clubs through direct oversight of registration, hiring, event coordination, training plan development, and budget management.

"Being named the next swimming and diving coach means I will be given the opportunity to put Adelphi swimming on the map," commented Danin. "I want coaches, swimmers, and the general public to say Adelphi swimming has an incredible swim program."

In 2014, Danin took over as the Director of Aquatics and Head Varsity Coach at the Stony Brook School, where he spearheaded the formation of a girls' and boys' varsity swimming and diving program. He coordinated logistical aspects of competitions, swim camps, and clinics generating $100,000 in revenue for the program, all while building it into the successful program it is today.

"We are thrilled to welcome Marc to the Adelphi family," said McCabe. "His experience and accomplishments as a swim coach at various levels on Long Island make him a huge asset to our program. We look forward to working with Marc and building on the foundation of the Adelphi swimming and diving program."

On the club level, he has trained and developed top eight and under, Silver, Junior Olympic, Zone, Top 16, Junior National, Futures, National and Senior National Qualifiers and most recently a Paralympic Trial qualifier.

Anastasia Pagonis, a Garden City resident and Islander Aquatics member, went on from qualifying for the Paralympics to winning a gold and bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in the 400 freestyle and 200 individual medley, respectively. She also broke a world record in the 400 free and set three American records.

Danin also coached George Kalletta, who enters his senior year in 2021-22 at St. Bonaventure. As a sophomore, Kalletta won three medals and broke two programs records at the 2020 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships.

A 1994 graduate of Stony Brook University, Danin swam competitively for four years with the Seawolves, earning MVP honors in the 1992-93 season with an All-American honor to boot in the backstroke.
