Bentley Men, SCSU Women Lead Heading Into Friday.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Northeast-10 Conference had three NE10 records broken on the first day of the Swimming & Diving Championships at the Hutchinson Natatorium on the campus of Southern Connecticut, as the Bentley men and SCSU women hold leads heading into Friday's sessions.

Southern Connecticut - the host of the NE10 Championship - saw its Men's 800 Yard Freestyle Relay quartet of McAllistar Milne, Henry Velazquez, Franklin Kuhn and Chandler Tucker set a league championship record with a time of 6:45.56. Meanwhile, Bentley's Emma Hapkiewicz broke a Championship record in the Women's 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 10:22.66. SCSU's Andrew Buehler also set a new NE10 mark in the prelims of the 1-meter diving with his score of 538.70, to break Brandon Birchak's 2006 record of 517.85.

The previous recordholder in the Men's 800 Freestyle Relay was Southern Connecticut in 2018, which had a time of 6:46.67 - a little more than one second behind the Owls' newest mark set on Thursday. In the Women's 1000 Yard Freestyle, Assumption's Erin Tague had the record from 2020 in a time of 10:22.82, just .16 seconds off from Hapkiewicz.

A couple familiar faces continued to dominate on the diving board, Andrew Buehler and Bentley's Mary Huminiski captured their second-straight NE10 titles in the men's one-meter and women's three-meter, respectively. Both Buehler and Huminiski were named Men's and Women's Diver of the Meet at the 2020 NE10 Championship after sweeping the diving events. They would later on earn NE10 Men's and Women's Diver of the Year honors from the Conference.

Overall, the Bentley men's program tallied 99 points on Day 1, holding the slimmest of margins over SCSU at 98.5. Le Moyne is third with 64.5. On the women's side, SCSU has a bit of a cushion at 154 points, while Bentley ranks second with 99 points. Assumption is close behind in third with 87 points.
