NE10 Swimming & Diving Report: Week 1

Week 1 - October 12, 2021

NE10 Men's Swimmer of the Week

Belal Hamad, Le Moyne
Freshman | Syracuse, N.Y.

He won two individual events and teamed on a relay victory in Le Moyne's 157-67 win over Pace on Saturday. He won the 200-yard freestyle by over 10.5 seconds with a time of 1:47.24. He later claimed the 100-yard freestyle by over two seconds with a time of 48.69 seconds. He anchored the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay team, which won in 1:31.72.


NE10 Women's Swimmer of the Week

Sophia Lumino, Assumption
Junior | Peabody, Mass.

Lumino gave her best performance of the BC New England Catholic Invite in the 400-yard IM. She took fourth place overall in a time of 4:53.31 for 15 points. She also earned eighth place in the 200-yard IM event with a time of 2:16.54, adding 11 points to the Greyhounds' team score. On top of her individual performances Lumino was part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that placed ninth overall in a time of 1:42.81.


NE10 Men's Diver of the Week

Justin Byrne, Le Moyne
Freshman | Syracuse, N.Y.

He was victorious in both one-meter diving events in Le Moyne's 157-67 win over Pace on Saturday. He scored 166.75 points to win the first and 242.55 points to win the second.


NE10 Women's Diver of the Week

Amy Calandro, Pace University
Senior | Eastchester, N.Y.

Calandro placed first in the one-meter dive during Pace's season-opener at Le Moyne. The senior posted a high mark of 169.45.


NE10 Men's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week

NE10 Women's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week

Sydney Stockwell, Stonehill
Sophomore | Hopkinton, N.H.

Took first place in all three of her individual swims, while also leading off Stonehill's 200-yard medley relay that finished second in 1:57.09 as the Skyhawks made their program debut with a split in their tri-meet at Keene State, with Colby-Sawyer, on Saturday. Stockwell won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.63-seconds, while finishing the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.57 and then winning the 200-yard backstroke in 2:16.72.


NE10 Men's Relay of the Week

200 Yard Freestyle Relay, Le Moyne

The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay quartet of Logan Bronecki, Logan Petralia, Alex Turczyn and Belal Hamad won by over six seconds with a time of 1:31.72.


NE10 Women's Relay of the Week

200 Yard Freestyle Relay, Assumption

Juniors Sophia Lumino, Adelaide Ferrick, Sydney Leyden, and senior MacKenzie Day teamed up in the 200-yard freestyle relay at the Boston College New England Catholic Invite and claimed ninth place overall with a final time of 1:42.81. The finish earned the Greyhounds 18 points in the first event of the invite.


NE10 Weekly Honor Roll

Vicky Silaika, Le Moyne College (Sr.  - Rexford, N.Y.)
She was victorious both distance events in Le Moyne's 134-94 victory over Pace on Saturday. She won the 1000-yard freestyle by over 41 seconds with a time of 11:42.87 for the women's team's first win of the day. She later won the 500-yard freestyle by over 15 seconds with a time of 5:47.14.

Tyler Besnoff, Pace University (So. - Lititz, Pa.)
Besnoff served as the Setters' leading scorer during their season-opening meet at Le Moyne. The Pennsylvania native earned a winning time in the 200-IM (2:05.87), while also placing second in the 500-free (5:09.44).

Annie Keppel-Palmer, Pace (Gr. - Kent, England)
Keppel-Palmer led the way for the Setters during their season-opener at Le Moyne. The England native tallied a pair of individual wins, in addition to being a member of a triumphant relay team. Keppel-Palmer's solo victories came in the 200-IM (2:18.42) and 100-back (1:01.38). She was also a part of a winning swim in the 200-medley relay (1:57.22).

200-Yard Medley Relay, Pace
Annabel Keppel-Palmer, Katherine Devaney, Rose Clarke, and Katherine Kline posted a winning swim in the 200-medley (1:57.22) during Pace's season-opener at Le Moyne.

Henry Velazquez, Southern Connecticut State (So. - Fairfield, Conn.)
Against West Chester and Shippensburg on Oct. 1, Velazquez posted a third-place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:48.55 and in the 200 Yard Butterfly at 2:01.94. He also posted the third-best time in the 100 Yard Freestyle at 49.58. This past weekend at the Fairfield Invitational, had three third-place finishes to lead the Owls, while also swimming the first leg of the 400 Meter Freestyle Relay that finished second. Velazquez finished the 100 Meter Freestyle in 54.50; the 400 Freestyle in 4:27.06 and the 200 Individual Medley at 2:17.30.

400 Meter Freestyle Relay, Southern Connecticut State
Henry Velazquez (Fairfield, Conn.), Connor Skarzynski (West Hartford, Conn.), Evan Bombery (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Bobby Hahn (Niantic, Conn.) finished second in the 400 Meter Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:56.50.

200-yard Freestyle Relay, Stonehill
Stonehill's 200-yard freestyle relay finished first in 1:48.14 as the Skyhawks made their program debut by splitting a tri-meet at Keene State, with Colby Sawyer. Sophomores Katie Keating (East Lyme, Conn.) and captain Maddie Conley (North Providence, R.I.), along with freshmen Julie Mastroianni (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Sofiya Gobora (Sarasota, Fla.) completed the relay for the Skyhawks.
