NE10 Women's Outdoor Track & Field Report: Week 1

Week 1 - April 6, 2021

NE10 Women's Track Athlete of the Week

Wahjerjay Blango
Gr. | Sprints | Burlington, N.J.

 Blango won the 100-meter dash (12.50s) and 200-meter dash (25.52s), and was part of the winning 4x100-meter relay (49.09s) at the Yellow Jacket Invitational. She owns the top times in the conference in both the 100m and 200m events, while the 4x100 relay is also tops in the NE10.


NE10 Women's Field Athlete of the Week

Kristen Washington, New Haven
Senior | Jumps | New Haven, Conn.

Washington opened up the outdoor season with a pair of top-two finishes, earning medalist honors in the long jump and taking runner-up accolades in the triple jump. In the long jump, Washington hit a distance of 5.33 meters which came on her fifth of six attempts. She followed that up with a distance of 10.84 in the triple jump, hitting that mark on her third attempt on the day. She also closed out the day joining in as the third leg on one of the Chargers 4x400-meter relay teams.


NE10 Women's Track Rookie of the Week

Savannah Sistrunk, New Haven
Freshman | Sprints | Georgetown, Del.

Savannah opened up her college career at New Haven with a pair of runner-up finishes in the two top sprint events. She started the day at the Wilton Wright Invitational capping off a one-two finish in the 100-meter dash with her time of 13.07 finishing second only to her own teammate. She followed that up with a time of 27.09 in the 200-meter dash, again finishing in the runner-up position. She was also a member of one of the 4x400-meter relate teams for the Blue and Gold.


NE10 Women's Field Rookie of the Week

Julieth Nwosu, Franklin Pierce
Sophomore | Throws | Brockton, Mass.

Won the shot put (13.33m) and took second in the discus (34.65m) on Saturday at the Yellow Jacket Invitational at AIC. The shot put mark established a new program record.


NE10 Women's Relay of the Week

Adelphi University - 4x400 Relay

The 4x400 relay came in first at the Yellow Jacket Invitational- the quartet of Jenna Puller, Gabrielle Buissereth, Gabrielle Griffin and Claire O'Regan posted a time of 4:03.52 which currently ranks first among NE10 competitors and is first in the region.


NE10 Weekly Honor Roll

Gabrielle Buissereth, Adelphi University (Jr. - Elmont, N.Y.)
Gabrielle Buissereth picked up several top-three finishes, including first in the 400 (57.02) and second in the 200m (25.74). She was also a member of the women's 4x400 relay team that ran a top time of 4:03.52, joined by Jenna Piller, Gabrielle Griffin and Claire O'Regan.

American International - 4x100 Relay
AIC's relay unit won its race in 49.09 at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, which is the best time in the NE10.

Bethaney Donnelly, Franklin Pierce (Gr. - Manchester, United Kingdom)
Finished second on Saturday in the 3000 meters (10:26.91) at the Wilton Wright Invitational at SCSU.

Kathleen Amstad, New Haven (Gr - Ellicott City, Md.)
Amstad led a one-two punch for the Blue and Gold as they took home the top two medal spots in the 100-meter dash at the Wilton Wright Invitational hosted by SCSU. Amstad finished the event with a time of 12.58 to take home top billing in the event. She followed that up by anchoring the 4x100-meter relay which placed second overall as her relay team finished with a time of 50.39.

Elaina DiSalvo, Southern Conn. (Gr. - Lake Grove, N.Y.)
In her first meet of the season, DiSalvo finished in first place in the pole vault with a mark of 3.05 meters, earning 10 points for the Owls in the event and helping them to a fourth place finish at the Wilton Wright Tri-Meet.
