AIC Claims NE10 Championship on the Final Event of the Day


SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – American International won the program's first Northeast-10 Women's Outdoor Track & Field Title thanks to a victory in the 4x400 relay, which was the final event of the championship event, to edge four-time defending champion Stonehill by two points, 114-112. 

Stonehill led AIC 106-104 going into the final race of the afternoon, the 4x400 relay, as the Skyhawks were looking to win their fifth straight NE10 Championship. In the relay, Adelphi claimed victory by almost five seconds and AIC took second in 4:00.43 for eight crucial points. Stonehill was eight seconds slower in fifth to earn four points, which allowed the Yellow Jackets to leapfrog them in the standings. 

Overall the 2021 Championship was the tightest in NE10 history as the top four teams were separated by just 13 points. Adelphi place third with 107 points while SNHU came through with 101 points and a fourth place finish. New Haven (87) and Franklin Pierce (84.5) rounded out the top six programs on the day.        

Following the impressive competition, the awards presentation took place to honor the top performers in the meet. Le Moyne's Madison Kozyra was honored as the Most Outstanding Field Performer, after second place finishes in the shot put and discus. Teammate Evan Keohane earned the Elite 24 award for having the top GPA of any participant in the championship. The junior chemistry major owns a 9.97 GPA.

For the first time in championship history there was a tie for Track Performer of the Meet as Adelphi's Gabrielle Buissereth and Wahjerjay Blango of AIC each totaled the same amount of points for their respective program.
