FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Owls Earn Three of Five Major NE10 Track & Field Awards

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast-10 has announced its 2021 Men's Outdoor Track & Field major award winners, and the Southern Connecticut Men won three of the five possible awards following their fourth straight NE10 Championship.

The Owls' Nigel Green was honored as the Track Athlete of the Year, the first SCSU honoree to receive the award since 2014, while fellow teammate Jordan Davis was selected as the Field Rookie of the Year. Evangelos Fradelakis earned Field Athlete of the Year honors while AIC's Ezra Mutai was named Track Rookie of the Year. Coaching Staff of the Year went to John Wallin and his SCSU coaching staff.

Green had an outstanding senior season. He was selected as the Most Outstanding Track Performer at the 2021 NE10 Track & Field Championships after winning the 100m and 200m events while anchoring the SCSU 4x100 and 4x400 relays to victories. He also qualified for the NCAA Championships in both the 100m and the 4x400 relay. Green is also the only NE10 athlete to earn All-Region in five events.

Fradelakis put together a dominant season, culminating with his first trip to the NCAA Championships this coming week. He was honored as the Most Outstanding Field Performer at this year's NE10 Championships after winning the hammer with an NE10 record of 64.02 meters while taking second in the Discus (47.01m) and fifth in the javelin with a distance of 52.39 meters. His hammer throw is the best in the NE10 by over eight meters.

Mutai won his only event at the NE10 Championships, setting a new NE10 record in the 10k by over a minute with a time of 28:44.21. The time is the best in the nation entering the National Championships this week. Mutai also owns the top time in the NE10 in the 5k (14:02.07) and the second best time in the 1500m with a time of 3:44.97.

Davis won the javelin at the NE10 Championships with his toss of 62.39 meters, four meters farther than the next finisher. His best distance in the javelin of 65.10 meters is ranked 10th in the nation and he qualified for the NCAA Championships.

John Wallin and his staff captured the program's fourth straight NE10 Outdoor Championship with an NE10-record point total of 301.5 points. Four Owls will be competing individually at the NCAA Championships as will SCSU's 4x400 relay.
