Pair of Upsets in NE10 Women's Basketball Championship Quarterfinals on Monday

MANSFIELD, Mass. - No. 3-seeded Stonehill and No. 4-seeded Southern Connecticut registered upset wins on Monday night in the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship quarterfinals, punching their ticket to Thursday's semifinals. Top-seeded Le Moyne No. 2-seeded Bentley also advanced. 

Le Moyne will host Bentley and Stonehill will welcome Southern Connecticut on Thursday with two places in Sunday's championship final at stake. All games throughout the Championship will be streamed live and for free on NE10 NOW - the Conference's digital streaming platform. 


No. 1 Le Moyne (SW) 64, No. 4 Saint Anselm (NE) 60 - Box Score

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne women's basketball team prevailed in a nail-biter on Ted Grant Court, earning a 64-60 victory over the Saint Anselm Hawks on Monday night in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. The top-seeded Dolphins will have home court advantage for the conference tournament semifinals, where they will meet Bentley University on Thursday, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EST. The Falcons took down Franklin Pierce in their quarterfinal matchup by a score of 63-52.

Redshirt junior guard Saeeda Abdul-Aziz delivered a spectacular offensive performance for the Dolphins, making six three-point field goals on 11 attempts, finishing the postseason battle with a season-high 25 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and a steal in over 37 minutes played. Senior point guard Erin Fouracre played over 36 minutes on Monday night, and contributed 10 points, a game-high four steals, three rebounds and three assists. 


No. 2 Bentley (NE) 63, No. 6 Franklin Pierce (NE) 52 - Box Score

WALTHAM, Mass. – Second-half runs of 10-2 and 11-0 propelled Bentley University to a 63-52 quarterfinal win over Franklin Pierce University and a record 36th trip to the Northeast-10 Conference semifinals in women's college basketball Monday night at the Dana Center.

The Falcons, who improved to 16-8 overall, were led by sophomore guard Maggie Whitmore, who had a career-game. She established new highs in both points (16) and rebounds (12) with her first career double-double. Bentley will travel to play top-seeded Le Moyne on Thursday night.


No. 3 Stonehill (NE) 65, No. 2 Pace (SW) 51 - Box Score

Kayla Raymond scored a game-high 23 points in the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball Championship quarterfinals on Monday night, leading No. 3-seeded Stonehill to an upset win over No. 2-seeded Pace on the road to earn a trip to the semifinals on Thursday night. The Skyhawks will host No. 4-seeded Southern Connecticut with a trip to the NE10 Championship final on the line. 

Stonehill's defense suffocated Pace's offense, holding the Setters to a 33.3% shooting clip from the field - including a mere 25% from long range - in the win, as it continues to defend its 2020 NE10 Championship. 


No. 4 Southern Connecticut (SW) 71, No. 1 Southern New Hampshire (NE) 64 - Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Southern Connecticut women's basketball, the No. 4 seed from the Southwest Division, upset Southern New Hampshire University, the No. 1 seed from the Northeast Division, 71-64, in the Northeast 10 Conference Quarterfinals at Stan Spirou Field House. With the win, the Owls improved to 13-13 overall, while the Penmen fell to 21-6 overall.

Graduate student Jessica Fressle led all players with a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds. Senior Delaney Connors recorded 15 points on 64-percent shooting from the field. Connors also chipped in six rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks. Senior Zoe Amalbert grabbed 10 points, five rebounds, and two assists. First-year Delaney Haines recorded 11 points on 80-percent shooting from the field.
