CHAMPIONS OF THE EAST! Pace Captures NCAA Regional Title with Win Over Daemen

Pace WBB - East Region champs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

First Regional Title for the Setters Since 2001.

MANCHESTER, N.H. – On to the Elite Eight! The Pace University women's basketball team's magical postseason run continued on Monday night with a 67-65 win over Daemen College in the NCAA East Regional final. The Setters will now advance to the NCAA Elite Eight next week in Birmingham, Ala.

Pace's victory over the Wildcats capped off a triumphant regional that also featured wins over second-seeded Chestnut Hill College and third-seeded USciences.

Graduate forward Lauren Schetter was named the regional's Most Outstanding Player after yet another sensational performance on Monday night. Schetter racked up a game-high 27 points against Daemen to lead the Setters to their first Regional championship since 2001. She also added eight rebounds, two assists and a steal. All in all, Schetter posted averages of 18.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in the Setters' three regional triumphs.

Another graduate student, Jasmine White, joined in double figures with 11 points off the bench. She knocked in a trio of vital three-pointers. Sophomore Katumina Mansaray served as Pace's final double-digit scorer with 10 points.

As they have done all season long, the Setters showed sensational mental toughness in the fourth quarter. Trailing by seven with 7:37 remaining, Pace made all the right plays down the stretch. One of the biggest shots of the game came from freshman Arianna Stockinger, who drilled a three-pointer to give the Setters a 62-60 lead with 2:35 left.

It was then a steal from Shanice Sinclair and two clutch free throws from Schetter with less than 30 seconds on the clock that clinched the win. Pace only turned the ball over seven times while finishing the game with 17 more shot attempts than Daemen.
