Assumption College’s longtime former sports information director Steve Morris was selected by the conference’s hall of fame committee for enshrinement in 2013.
Morris, known as “Merc” to friends and colleagues, dedicated over four decades of his life to Assumption and the school’s student-athletes. After serving as a statistician as a student at the school, he became the college’s sports information director and served in that role for nearly 40 years before passing away in January 2011.
The only sports information director the college had ever had, Merc impacted the lives of thousands of Assumption student-athletes over the years. His impact went far beyond Assumption though, as he mentored hundreds of student-athletes, coaches, and colleagues throughout the years, and was always on the other end of a phone call if you needed a good laugh or advice.
