Despite the University of Hartford's brief tenure as an NE-10 Founding member, the Hawks program had a chance to leave an impression of the conference with a number of outstanding student-athletes. Junior Salmon is one of those people.

Salmon was a gifted forward, widely considered one of Hartford's and the NE-8's premier offensive players. To this day he stands among career leaders in the program with 47 goals and 120 points and was the program's top offensive player for three successive seasons.

A two-time All-Conference, All-American and All-New England honoree, he was also holds the distinction of being the first and second ever conference player of the year, earning the honor in 1980 and 1981.

Under Salmon's guidance, the Hawks won their first two conference titles and he also helped Hartford to earn three NCAA Division II tournament appearances (1978, 1980, 1981) and the ECAC championship in 1979.

He was inducted into the Hartford Hall of Fame in 1994.
