1994 Merrimack College Softball Team
National Champions (45 - 4)
Over the past five years, the Northeast-10 has begun to make a
significant move forward as it is consistently challenging across
the athletic landscape not only for regional championships, but
NCAA championships. Since 2001, the league has seen national team
championships captured in field hockey, men’s lacrosse,
women’s lacrosse, and individual championships in track &
field.
And this year (2007) saw a record four national champions crowned
with Southern Connecticut’s women’s basketball team, Le
Moyne’s men’s lacrosse team, as well as individual
championships in track & field at UMass Lowell and diving at
the College of Saint Rose.
The 1994 softball team from Merrimack College set the precedent,
becoming the first-ever National Champion in Northeast-10
history.
The 1994 Merrimack softball team was the first to truly bring the
NE-10 conference name to the national stage and when they won that
title against Humboldt State, they carried not only their
teammates, athletic program and college community, they carried all
the other programs in the league that played that year with
them.
