It was an incredible collegiate running career for Martha Grinnell Sorenson. While at Springfield, she earned three First Team All Conference honors, and was the first back-to-back individual champion in the league's history, winning the title in 1987 and again in 1988.

A four-time Springfield College Female Athlete of the Year for Individual Sports from 1986 through 1989, she was showered with other accolades including three consecutive All New England and All region honors, and capped her career earning All-American honors at the 1987 Division II Championships.

But Martha was just getting started. She turned her attention to the Triathlon becoming the first US Female tri-athlete in history to qualify for the World Championships as a rookie pro, in 1992. A member of the US Pro World Championship Triathlon Team from 1992-95, she earned a membership with the US Goodwill Games in 1994 and qualified for the Pan-American Games in 1995.

She continued to advance, placing second at the US Pro World Triathlon Championships in 1994 and 97, was ranked third in the US in the Olympic distance triathlon in 1994 and was ranked seventh in 1997, finished seventh in the Hawaii Ironman World Championships in 1997, and was a 1998 US National Triathlon Team member.
