Leon Drury served as Bryant's Director of Athletics as well as the men's basketball coach during the school's move to the then Northeast-7 Conference.

As basketball coach from 1978-1989, Drury compiled a record of 126-182 over a span of 11 seasons. His 1979-80 team posted a 20-7 overall record and qualified for the NCAA tournament. That year, Bryant achieved a No. 1 ranking in Division II in New England. For his efforts, Drury was named the Rhode Island Coach of the Year by Words Unlimited (for all divisions), the association of sportswriters and sportscasters.

Under Drury's direction as athletic director, the varsity sports program increased from 11 to 15 teams while participation in the school's intramural program jumped significantly to nearly 90 percent. Prior to taking over as athletic director, Drury had served six years as the school's assistant athletic director and assistant men's basketball coach.

Leon's vision and influence in creating the NE-10 will be forever appreciated.
