AIC Names Stephanie Gordon as Head Coach of Women's Soccer Program

Stephanie Gordon

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gordon Promoted After Three Seasons as AIC Assistant Coach.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - American International has promoted Stephanie Gordon to head women's soccer coach, Vice President for Athletics Lou Izzi announced on Thursday, December 16.

"We are delighted to elevate Stephanie to head coach of our women's soccer team. It became apparent to us as our search progressed that she is the best fit for our program and our department. Stephanie is a rising star with a great vision and a strong passion for coaching. She has earned this opportunity with her tireless work and unwavering commitment to AIC and our student-athletes," Izzi said.

"I am honored to be given the opportunity to lead the AIC Women's Soccer program into the 2022 season. It is so important to do what you love to do.  My passion for coaching has allowed me to grow with the game, but also has given me the opportunity to impact someone's life. That is something I value and take great responsibility in doing. In this role, I will be able to build upon an already fantastic group of women and support them and the program to reach new personal and team bests. The environment at AIC is one of strong community, and diversity, with truly amazing people. I want to thank our Vice President Lou Izzi and our Athletic Director Jessica Chapin for their confidence in my vision. I am excited to take this next step with AIC and lead the program in a positive direction," Gordon added.

Gordon joined the AIC staff ahead of the 2018 season as an assistant coach and her impact on the team's defensive play has been readily apparent. AIC's team goals allowed has dropped in each of her seasons, from 1.68 goals per game in 2018 to 1.12 in 2021. That follows from a decrease in shots allowed, which has fallen from 5.84 per game in 2018 to 4.71 in 2021.

Under her tutelage, seven student-athletes have earned Northeast-10 All-Conference honors in the previous three seasons, along with five New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association All-New England and one United Soccer Coaches All-East Region honors.

Her time at AIC followed a stint at her alma mater, the University of Massachusetts, where she was an assistant coach from 2015-2017; she began her coaching career at Simmons College in 2014.

Prior to joining the coaching ranks, she was a goalkeeper, spending two seasons at Northeastern University and earning Second-Team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors. She still holds program single-season marks for both goalie minutes played and save percentage. Gordon then transferred to UMass, playing her final two seasons for the Minutemen and graduating in 2013 with a degree in psychology.
