Owls Win NE10 Title by 141 Points
EASTON, Mass. – Southern Connecticut took home its fifth consecutive NE10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship with another dominant performance this weekend, outscoring second place American International by over 100 points.
The Owls finished with 269 points overall, while the Yellow Jackets earned their second straight runner-up finish in the Outdoor Championship with 128 points. They only edged out third-place New Haven by 3.5 points as the Chargers totaled a school-record 124.5 points. Franklin Pierce took fourth with 106 points while Stonehill rounded out the top five with 71.5 points.
SCSU's Turner Kelly took home a pair of major awards, as he was honored as the Most Valuable Athlete for compiling the highest point total of any track or field athlete at the meet. He also earned Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet honors. Kelly won gold in the discus, hammer and shot put, while setting a new NE10 record in the shot put with his throw of 18.66 meters. It is his fourth NE10 Outdoor Shot Put Title.
AIC's Callum Elson was named the most Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet after he won the 800 meters in 1:50.49 and claimed gold in the 5,000 meters in 14:36.97.
Franklin Pierce's Ryan Walker won the Elite 24 Award for owning the highest GPA of any athlete competing. The sophomore, Health Sciences major owns a perfect 4.0 GPA.
