SNHU Tops Leaderboard in Presidents’ Cup Standings After Winter Season

Presidents' Cup - Winter 2021-22

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Penmen Hold Slim Lead Over Stonehill and Bentley.

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Behind regular season championships in both women's basketball and ice hockey, Southern New Hampshire takes over the top spot in the 2021-22 Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup standings following winter competition – but has a couple rivals trailing behind closely.

SNHU has a league-high 114.5 points – but has only a slim edge over second-place Stonehill (112.5) and third-place Bentley (112.0). Assumption (106.5), Franklin Pierce (102.0) and Southern Connecticut (100.5) have also reached 100 points, putting six NE10 institutions over the century mark.

The NE10 Presidents' Cup is presented annually at the conclusion of the academic year, signifying overall athletic excellence in the league. The honor is awarded to the institution that compiles the most cumulative points based on finishes in the regular season standings from all of its programs competing in league championships.

SNHU looks to claim its first-ever NE10 Presidents' Cup when a full academic year is considered. Previously, the Penmen were named the Presidents' Cup champions for the 2019 fall sports season, as the COVID-19 pandemic prevented a full year of athletic competition. In addition to regular season titles in women's basketball and ice hockey, SNHU also finished as runner-up at the NE10 Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship.

Stonehill earned three top-four finishes this winter in men's basketball, women's basketball and women's indoor track & field - jumping one place in the Presidents' Cup standings from the fall season. Bentley jumped two spots following its regular season title in men's basketball and second-place finishes in women's basketball, as well as men's and women's swimming & diving.

Southern Connecticut earned 45 points this winter – the most of any NE10 institution – after earning the maximum totals for its NE10 Championships in men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving and men's indoor track & field.
