DII Award of Excellence

NCAA RELEASE

Saint Anselm Selected as NE10 Finalist.

MANSFIELD, Mass. – It was announced on Monday afternoon that the Northeast-10 Conference had two member institutions – Saint Anselm College and Saint Michael's College – named finalists for the prestigious 2022 Division II Award of Excellence.

The Division II Award of Excellence is an accolade that recognizes initiatives in the past year that exemplify the DII philosophy in the areas of community engagement and student-athlete leadership. Among the finalist pool for this honor are 26 schools and two conferences.

Division II honors its members each year for conducting events that promote student-athletes giving back and serving as leaders within their communities or on their campuses. A committee of athletics administrators determined the 2022 finalists, while the national Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) selects the winners, which will be announced at the DII business session on Jan. 22 as part of the NCAA Convention.

Saint Anselm was chosen as the Northeast-10 Conference finalist for its Make-A-Wish event on August 31, 2021, when its men's soccer team welcomed Liam Bascle - a seven-year-old with malignant neoplasm of the brain – to the program with an honorary letter of intent. Hundreds of student-athletes and individuals from the community cheered on Liam upon his signing with the team.

Liam passed away on Nov. 23 with his family at his side after a long and courageous battle. Donations in Liam's memory may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire at the following link: https://wish.org/nh

Saint Michael's was named an at-large finalist for its participation in the annual Pride Vermont Parade and Festival. On Sept. 5, 2021, Saint Michael's student-athletes walked down Church Street in Burlington, Vt., to support diversity and equality – while continuing a College tradition that began in 2016. Student-athletes assisted in the coordination of the event and helped to raise awareness.

Each finalist of the Division II Award of Excellence will receive $500. The overall winner will receive $2,500, the first runner-up will receive $1,250 and the second runner-up will receive $1,000. All prize money is intended to be used for future SAAC initiatives or community engagement events.
